Forest and Land Fire Hot Spots Reduced to 317, Operations in Prone Areas Remain Strengthened
Apart from handling fires, the Ministry of Forestry is strengthening wildlife protection in affected areas. On Saturday (24/10/2026), the Minister of Forestry released two Kalimantan orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus) named Adil and Gigih into their natural habitat in Ketapang Regency.
The release was carried out together with the CEO of the Indonesian Rehabilitation Nature Initiation Foundation (YIARI), dr. Karmele Llano Sanchez, as well as elements of the TNI and Polri.
Adil, a male orangutan over eight years old, and Gigih, a male over 10 years old, were previously evacuated from the oil palm plantation area in Laman Satong Village, Ketapang Regency, on Friday (23/10/2026).

After undergoing an examination and being declared able to be returned to the wild, the two were released a day later.
The Minister of Forestry emphasized that saving animals does not just stop at the evacuation and release process. Protecting forests as natural habitats is a fundamental step so that orangutans can live in nature and are not pushed out of their habitat.
The day before the release, the Minister of Forestry also visited the YIARI Orangutan Rehabilitation Center in Ketapang.
